Education Through Agriculture

Ecovillages are communities whose goal is to become more socially, economically and ecologically self sustainable. The majority of these villages range in size from 50 to 150 people, with some being smaller. Larger villages of up to 2,000 people work as one unit in smaller sub-villages.

The Ecovillage all starts with educating people and showing them how they can live a healthy and sustainable life. Our idea is to implement an ecovillage in the Central Region of Ghana thus enabling the local villagers the ability to live in a safe and earth friendly manner.

Black Star Education Foundation will acquire a two acre plot in which to create our ecovillage. We will plant gardens, build a chicken coop, a goat pen, a tiny house, and plant many fruit bearing trees. The ecovillage will also be used for education. We will have classes to teach best practices of local growing and use of local materials . We will educate on how to reuse as much as possible; even what may have been normal waste, such as plastic bags and plastic water bottles.

Godsway is a middle school teacher and educated in the field of permaculture. Godsway has created and constructed successful garden irrigation systems using discarded water bottles. He has even fashioned furniture using plastic bottles and other recycled materials. Having extensive experience, Godsway will be managing the ecovillage and be our ecovillage educator. Once established, he will commence teaching high school students and locals how to maximize their local production environment, while being very ecologically friendly.

Many of us grow a vegetable garden or keep chickens for pleasure or as a hobby. For the people of the Central Region of Ghana, these are life skills that once embraced, can have a life long impact. With your support, Black Star Education Foundation will be able to begin a project that has life changing potential for many in need. We have numerous ways in which you can help sponsor this project. Black Star Education Foundation truly appreciates your continued support.
